Award-winning Figure of 8 Dance Theatre returns to The Baxter to kick-start their 10-Year Anniversary celebrations with a brand new dance theatre production, MAZE OF THE MIND.
Most recently Figure of 8 Dance Theatre’s work ‘Set in Motion’ received the Herrie Prize at this year’s KKNK KannaAwards which debuted last year as their July season. FO8 has become known for their yearly debut winter season and this year we are looking at the human’s mind.
We can find ourselves in a maze of thoughts, Dance can provide a way to navigate this maze. Exploring the human mind and its workings, the new choreography delves into the complex interplay between the conscious and subconscious mind, and how they shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions.
Figure of 8 Dance Theatre always aims to collaborate with people from various backgrounds, aiming to be inclusive and with an immense passion for the youth.
This time around, the production consists of a diverse cast of seven individuals from various companies, universities and backgrounds. Keenun Wales from Rebirth Dance Company (Worcester) and Mbulelo Mzwazi from Imbewu Arts Collective (Khayelitsha) joins the cast. Each individual brings their own unique dance style and vision to the piece, includingtrained Ballet and Capoeira artist, Veronique Reagon as well as Mahle Dlambulo who is delving into the pedagogy of dance. Through a partnership that FO8 has built with theUniversity of Stellenbosch, there are two students from their Drama Department joining the team, Mila Sobowleski and Thalia Alberts.
